If a customer wants to keep their telephone number, you must create an LNP transfer request. Local number portability (LNP) allows a person to transfer his or her telephone number from the provider that assigned it to another provider.
IMPORTANT: Before making any changes to a person’s telephone service, you must have a Letter of Agreement (LOA) that authorizes you to act on behalf of the customer. DO NOT use the same LOA for all customers; an LOA must be signed by the customer, saved electronically, and attached to your request.
The provisioning process for LNP is similar to provisioning a new customer, except that you start by creating an LNP request. RPM sends the request to Momentum, and then Momentum works with the current provider to transfer the number. When the telephone number is ready, you will receve an email message.
The following illustration shows the process for transferring a number.
