Lesson 3 - Ordering Telephone Numbers (DIDs)

As an administrator, you must ensure an "inventory" of telephone numbers to assign. This lesson explains how to order sets of direct inward dialing, or DID, numbers (unassigned telephone numbers), which can be assigned to new customers.

To order telephone numbers:

  1. On the Administration menu, click Resources Management, and then click DID Management.

The DID Order page is displayed.

  2. Click Request new DID block.

The Request DID Block page is displayed.

  3. In DID type, select the type of phone number you are ordering.
  4. Select the State and then select the Rate Center with which the numbers should be associated.

For DIDs (local telephone numbers), the state and rate center determine the area code and local exchange (the set of 3 digits after the area code) for the numbers.

  5. Enter the quantity of telephone numbers and then select the date by which you need them.

If you leave Request date blank, today's date is used.

IMPORTANT: Try to stage your DID requests. Once the numbers are allocated to your service provider, you will be charged 50¢/month for each number until it is assigned to a customer.

  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to order additional blocks of numbers.
  7. Complete the remaining fields, and then click Next to display a confirmation page.

  8. Review the details of the order, and then click Submit to place the order.

Now that you have an inventory of telephone numbers to assign, continue with the next lesson to record your VoIP devices in RPM.
